The garage has been part of my life in La Santa since the early 2000s.
My father built it himself, learning as he went and taking his time. He worked on it Sunday after Sunday while also doing more than forty hours a week at his regular job.
Around that time, I discovered surfing and it quickly became a big part of my life. I started spending more and more time at the garage, first at weekends, then for entire summers, until it eventually became my home.
My friends always ended up there too, and for a while it became a meeting place for many of us growing up in the village. We surfed, took photos, played music and had parties. Over the years, the space was used as a surf school, a gym, a music studio and, like most family garages, a place to store everything that nobody wanted to keep at home.
When I left the island to study and travel, the garage was used less and slowly became neglected. I started spending more time on design, advertising and music, and less time surfing or being outdoors.
As the years passed, especially after the pandemic, I felt the need to return to Lanzarote and reconnect with the things that keep me grounded.
That was when I decided to renovate the garage and completely rethink the space. I used what I had learned from more than ten years working in creative direction to give it a new purpose.
At the beginning of 2021, I started the renovation with a small team of family members, including my father. We finished in November of the same year. What everyone in the village had always known as Adri’s garage became Garage La Santa.
Today, it’s where I live whenever I’m on the island. It keeps me close to the things I enjoy most, surfing, having friends over for dinner and going out on my bike.
It also gives me enough space to work as if I were in a studio. To be honest, when I’m there, I try to spend as little time as possible in front of the computer. Whenever I can, I slip away between editing sessions to catch a wave in La Santa or at El Quemao.
This is the way I like to experience Lanzarote, and I wanted to share a little of it with other people. When I’m away, Garage La Santa is available for short stays or longer periods.
